I tried the new Wii this evening. It was late, but I just couldn't wait. Hooking up the Wii was no big deal -- the network is much more configurable than the Roku, and it slipped right into place with the proper entries.
Wii Fit itself looks like an interesting program. I was afraid it would have no stretching or warmup, but it includes yoga! In fact, it includes yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. Only a few of each are available to start with. I tried everything. (The skiing was fun, but frustrating. The ski jump was impressive, but frustrating. The hula hoop was easy. The step class was boring.)
Right now, the plan is to wake up early every morning and do all the available strength exercises, then a balance game to cool down. Strength is important on The Race, and balance is important in real life.
There's also a "body test", which weighs you and calculates your Body Mass Index, then performs some stability and agility tests. It calculates a "Wii Fit age". Today I was 47 and obese. It could get depressing to do that every day; we'll see.
After I lose some weight, I'll consider adjusting my eating habits some more.
I feel good about this. I've always loved video games; this may be just the thing to finally get me back in shape!
